Action is a principle of success because nothing happens until action is taken.
Rally the forces of Self-Discipline and Personal Initiative and you can now take action on your plans.
Until you hit a bump in the road.
To this point, you’ve been exposed to success habits and success principles of millionaires, titans of industry, and self-made internet moguls.
Whether it’s through reading or listening to books, listening to podcasts, or watching videos, you know that success leaves clues and many people have written about those clues over the last 100 years.
Now it’s time for you to achieve your goals, have wonderful relationships, the perfect job, a thriving business. It’s no longer just a thought or dream because you know what you can do each day to make it happen.
What’s stopping you? What’s holding you back?
If you’re like most people, you read the words, watch the videos, and listen to the podcasts. You get inspired and start dreaming about what is possible. You get a glimpse of where you could be in your life and business. You may have a clear vision of exactly where you want to be and what you want to be doing with your life and business.
You’re inspired to change your life, to change the ending of your story. You get it. You get the importance of success habits. You get the importance of practicing success principles. You understand that happiness and contentment are an inside job. It all makes sense to you. You may even be inspired by the stories you’ve read of people in everyday life, possibly people you’ve met personally, and thought to yourself “if they can do it, I can do it!”.
So, why are you struggling to get started?
You’re struggling because the idea of making these changes, of doing something different each day to change your life is scary.
You’ve found a nice, comfortable, familiar way to live that doesn’t include surprises or changes or dealing with unknowns.
You feel safe, right now.
But, safe doesn’t mean happy, fulfilled, and financially prosperous.
On a conscious level, you are dealing with bills that need to be paid, jobs that need to be done, family and friends who need your attention, a business to tend to. And, this may not be the Life you say you want, but it’s what you have and you can trust it. You know what to expect. You know how to manage yourself within it. Changing any of this is what strikes fear into your heart and mind.
Here’s the deal: As much as you want to start making success habits a part of your life, as much as you want to experience the freedom that comes from living by the success principles you know work – for others – it’s not enough. You must take action.
You’re not alone. Many have been stuck in that place between knowing and action.
The good news is that there is a way to get unstuck. And, the way to do it is to start small.
“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.“
Mahatma Gandhi
Start Small
orget trying to talk yourself into changing through sheer willpower or pep talks. That might work for a few days or even a week, but it’s not enough.
As important as it is for you to have long term goals, lifetime achievement goals, 5 year and 10-year goals, it is more important that you’re able to put into action the steps necessary to achieve those goals and not get stuck.
Your focus needs to be on doing one small thing at a time. Something you know you can do. And to make it easier to incorporate into your daily life, you can simply stack this new thing right on top or before or after something you’re already doing.
When you’re able to see progress and feel a difference you’ll be motivated to continue. You’ll also be able to see when you are ready to add something else to your daily routine. And, you’ll know how to do it.
Here’s how to start small. You’re going to commit to doing something different for 30 days.
You can imagine doing something for 30 days. Think of it as a test period. You’ll review the results and do it again for the next 30 days.
Imagine its 30 days from now. You’ve just had the best 30 days of your life. What does that look like?
Who did you say yes to?
Who did you say no to?
Did you reconnect with your spouse?
Did you outsource your first project?
Did you launch your first InfoProduct?
Did you sell your first $1,000 from your e-commerce site?
What does it look like, for you, 30 days from now?
As you can see by the questions, you can focus on your income, your life, your business.
Pick one thing you want to improve on, greatly, and focus your attention on just that one thing.
Now, get out your calendar and mark the date 30 days from today.
Next, decide what you are committed to doing differently, every day, for the next 30 days.
How does that fit with your normal daily routine and schedule? Where does it fit?
How will you fit it in your day? Before breakfast and coffee or after lunch or dinner?
Commit to stopping all busywork.
Commit to having more than 50% of your daily activities focused on action steps to achieve your 30-day goal.
Commit to adding this one thing to your day.
