the golden rule

There are two types of forces in this universe. One attracts, the other repels. You are a force in and of yourself. You either attract people or repel them.

The people you attract are in harmony with your attitude toward life. That is why you attract them.

Like attracts like.

Those who have wealth and success in life and business are attracted to each other.

Those who have little and beg for charity are attracted to each other.

Which group do you belong to? Do you know?

You may be thinking that this sounds a lot like the Law of Attraction. That’s because it is very similar. Though the Law of Attraction isn’t a success principle. It is a universal law that essentially says “what you think about, you bring about”. Your thoughts are what create your reality and they are what attract others to you.

In this case, The Golden Rule is a success principle and is based on action. It’s you understanding how your actions are a result of your attitude. It’s how you can change your attitude to change your actions.

You may be thinking now that the Golden Rule is “treat others as you would have them treat you”. Essentially, that is true. And, if you and others truly believed this and lived it, no one would be getting scammed or cheated or bullied or taken advantage of.

Therein lies the problem. Until everyone is on board with living the Golden Rule, these negative forces will continue to be a part of our lives. The solution is that you decide to practice and live the Golden Rule, share it with others, teach others to live it, and be an active part of the solution.

Some examples of the actions your attitude can create:

  • to expect a full day’s pay for doing a half day’s work isn’t observing the Golden Rule.
  • to think only of yourself and your family and forget your duty to your community, your colleagues, your fellow workers is not observing the Golden Rule.
  • to not pay someone for the service you ordered and they provided is not observing the Golden Rule.

Check in with yourself. Is your thinking and attitude like this? If it is, you’ll begin to see the reason for your unhappiness and your lack of wealth.

You’ll also discover your reason for being “unlucky” in life.

The good news is that you can change your attitude. And, by changing your attitude, you can change the attitude of others toward you.

Because, when it comes to achieving success in life and business, it is important that we are able to influence other people to do things that we want them to do.

We want them to purchase our products and services.

We want them to join our group.

We want them to share good things about us to their friends.

We want them to collaborate or partner with us.

Some people lie awake nights, knowing exactly how they could make a million dollars, or build a great business, or reduce the cost of living, or offer mankind some other great service if …

they could just get people to do what they wanted them to do!

They get caught up in the frustration of not having that power because it never occurs to them that there is a method, a proven, effective method through which we can get other people to do what we want them to do.

It begins with us. With you.

“The better life rests less on the prohibitions of the Ten Commandments and more on the parable of the Good Samaritan and the Golden Rule.”

David Josiah Brewer

If you want other people to act toward you in a particular way, you must simply act that way toward them first. And, keep it up until they respond.

“Yeah, right!” Says the man who works hard every day and is having a problem making ends meet at the end of the month. According to him, he goes to work before sunrise, toils all day with his back and hands, comes home after dark, and is too tired to enjoy time with this family. He looks around and sees injustice everywhere. He thinks there is a conspiracy against him and his fellow workers. He believes he isn’t paid enough for the work he does. All around him he points to others who are living in better conditions than he is. It seems the world is against him and he’s been dealt a raw deal.

Those who see injustice in life, who feel sentenced to unhappiness, to harder than necessary work, grief, and even poverty feel this injustice deeply. These feelings can be seen in their angry faces, in their body language, in the gruffness of their voice, and in their actions toward other people.

Unconsciously, their behavior is repelling others. They have few, if any, intimate friends or colleagues. No one wants to throw opportunities their way because they know it will be received with ingratitude, or worse, anger. Others stay as far away as possible.

Quite the opposite of the one who works hard every day and sets aside a portion of each day’s pay to fund future plans. The one who understands that the work they’re doing now is a stepping stone to the future they desire.

Can you see the difference?

Can you see yourself in one of these examples?

Your job is to master yourself and direct your efforts toward the goal you want to achieve, toward becoming the person you want to become. The only way you’ll be able to do your job is to ignore those who fail to apply the Golden Rule. Their misfortune is not an excuse for you to ignore it, too.

No one can achieve success that will be permanent unless that success is built on the fundamentals of success principles such as this one.

For the Golden Rule to truly work for you – you must apply it. You must talk about it to others. You must teach others the advantage of applying it. To benefit the most from the Golden Rule, you should work hard to develop a reputation of being a person who believes in and applies the Golden Rule in all human relationships. Yes, that’s a lot of work. It’s worth the effort. Passive agreement, thinking about it, believing in it is not enough. It is a principle that, when lived and applied in daily life, carries tremendous power to transform you and others.

When you understand the power that is the Golden Rule, you can use it to bring all the happiness and wealth and material success you want. You can turn enemies into friends, attain greater success in whatever career you’ve chosen.
